“Heaven and earth never agreed better to frame a place for man’s habitation”

This description of the Chesapeake Bay by the seventeenth century explorer Captain John Smith is as apt today as it was over three hundred fifty years ago.  Seanchai's home waters are the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.  Nearly 200 miles long and 20 miles wide, the Chesapeake Bay abounds with inlets, rivers, and creeks that beg to be explored.

Much of early American history took place in and around the Chesapeake Bay. The Chesapeake Bay includes the shores of the James River, on which the first English colonists arrived. The first capital of the colony of Maryland was in St Mary's, only one day’s sail south of Solomons Island.  The fledgling colonies gained their independence from England with the victory at Yorktown, also on the banks of a Chesapeake tributary.

The shores of the Bay are home to many small towns and communities that up until a few decades ago were isolated from mainstream America and whose primary contact with the outside world was by boats plying the Chesapeake Bay. The Bay and its tributaries are also home to large metropolitan communities such as Baltimore, Norfolk, Washington, D.C., and Annapolis. Each of these towns has its own unique personality and charm.

Whether you wish to explore history, enjoy the charms of an unspoiled waterman's town, or sit quietly at anchor in an isolated cove, the Chesapeake Bay has what you want.

Note that if you want to type in the e-mail address above instead of clicking on the link, the (dot) in the e-mail address should actually be typed as “.”.  We’ve had to resort to this clever ruse to avoid those charming pleas by Dr. Abo Don Salari (et. al.) who wants us to send him our bank account number so that he can send us several million dollars.  Though we appreciate his confidence in our discretion, we fear that our Captain would spend much of the money on hard liquor and fast women but then he would probably just waste the rest so we’re trying to avoid the temptation.  Thanks anyway Dr. Salari.
